VIAF 2020 – The Gozo Miracle!

Victoria International Arts Festival (VIAF) is Malta’s longest-running Festival of its kind. It is a Festival of orchestral, choral and chamber music, which runs for five weeks between the 10th June and the 13th July.

VIAF was the brainchild of the late Mro Joseph Vella who was also its first Artistic Director.

Also the year the German-Maltese Circle is sponsoring this event.

Due to prevailing circumstances this year’s VIAF will be held in virtual mode with all concerts presented online. Apart from our Facebook page, we have also set up a new YouTube channel through which we will be able to transmit these concerts.

This year’s 23rd edition of VIAF contains over 30 concerts. The organisers found incredible cooperation from this year’s scheduled performers, quite a few of whom are recording specifically for this online series of concerts. Due to social distancing, concerts such as those by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra were not possible. In these cases, the organisers are resorting to historic recordings of MPO concerts in VIAF which have been specially edited by our engineer, Mario Farrugia.

As in the past couple of years, this year’s edition is dedicated to Mro Joseph Vella.

All concerts start at 8pm. The revised programme will be uploaded week by week.
