Exhibition About Order

The German-Maltese Circle is supporting the Outreach Programme for the exhibition ABOUT ORDER, which will be on show till December 6th at St. James Cavalier (Valletta, Malta) as part of the Spazju Kreattiv Programme 2020/2021. The exhibition focuses on artistic and cultural-political patterns of order and their dynamics. Five artists from Berlin are involved: Sandra Contreras, Anette Kuhn, Sabine Linse, Mariel Poppe, Héctor Velázquez Gutiérrez and María Tello from Mexico.

The Outreach Programme is aimed at everyone who wants to learn more about German culture, language and society. It is bilingual (English / German), creates the opportunity to talk to the artists about their work and the topics of the exhibition and uses digital formats.

The programme includes curated tours, talks and interviews (via Zoom) with the artists.
Dates: Saturday, 31st October, Saturday, 7th November, Friday, 13th November, Saturday, 21st November, Sunday, 6th December.
Venue: Spazju Kreattiv,  Castille Place, Valletta
Due to health precautions, the number of participants is limited.  Pre-registration is advisable.

Background: The exhibition ABOUT ORDER is arranged by five narratives of Maltese cultural history, as they are structured in the MUŻA (National Museum of Fine Art Malta): “Beauty and Purpose”, “Signs and Tales”, “Religion and Ritual”,“Gate of Europe”,“ Mobility, Connections and Directions ”. The exhibition is curated by Verena Voigt M.A., Art Historian, Curator, Journalist and Head of the art association “Gesellschaft für zeitgenössische Konzepte e.V.” (Potsdam).

Membership

Permanent and temporary residents in Malta of German or Maltese nationality, not below the age of 18 years of age are eligible for membership to the German-Maltese Circle. Bona fide students between the ages of 14 and 18 are accepted as Junior Members.

Section of the Dorothea von Wendland Library

The Library at the German-Maltese Circle is named after Dorothea von Wendland, the wife of a former German Ambassador, who in the early 1970’s was instrumental in the setting up of a lending and reference library in the former premises of the Circle in Floriana.
