11th February – Talk by Mr Paul Guillaumier on the theme “Malta 60-61 AD: Surviving Shipwreck with St. Paul” – The historical, literary and theological contexts of Acts 27-28 supported with Powerpoint Presentation showing art paintings of the shipwreck, manuscripts and maps

13th February – German Film Evening: Befreite Zone (Liberated Zone) directed by Norbert Baumgarten (2004)

11th March – Talk by H.E. Dr Caroline Gudenus, Ambassador of Austria on the theme “Ein Vorhang geht auf – Mit der Drahtschere gegen die Trennung Europas” – The abolishing of the Iron Curtain between Austria and its neighbouring countries in June 1989 marked the beginning of the end of Europe’s division and eventually led to the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

13th March – German Film Evening: Stille Sehnsucht – Warchild directed by Christian Wagner (2006)

18th March – FIT in Deutsch – your child’s first European Credential in the German Language. Information meeting for parents and teachers

9th September – Talk by Francis Xavier Aloisio on the theme “The Maltese Temples and their German Connection”. Following the talk Francis X. Aloisio introduced an exhibition of his original paintings supporting his views and theories as proffered in his new novel Islands of Dream.

Membership

Permanent and temporary residents in Malta of German or Maltese nationality, not below the age of 18 years of age are eligible for membership to the German-Maltese Circle. Bona fide students between the ages of 14 and 18 are accepted as Junior Members.

The German-Maltese Circle organises various activities such as exhibitions, film shows, cultural tours, forums, lectures, seminars, concerts, choral performances by visiting German choirs, chanson evenings, social and sports events and in fact, anything which helps to make especially the Maltese public more conscious of German culture and the German way of life.

Section of the Dorothea von Wendland Library

The Library at the German-Maltese Circle is named after Dorothea von Wendland, the wife of a former German Ambassador, who in the early 1970’s was instrumental in the setting up of a lending and reference library in the former premises of the Circle in Floriana.
