9th March: German Film Evening: “Fassbinder’s Classics” -“Veronika Voss”
23rd March: Music Appreciation Evening led by Martin Spiteri: “Hans Rott: Symphony No.1”

4th April: Rote Rosen für Hilde und Rilke – Special Evening with songs by Hildegard Knef and poems by Rainer Maria Rilke

26th April: Talk “Modern Tendencies in Autobiographical Writing” by Apl. Prof. Dr. Carola Hilmes from the Goethe Universität of Frankfurt.  Organised in collaboration with the Department of German – University of Malta
27th April: Music Appreciation Evening led by Aldo Fenech on “Franz Schubert: The Ninth Symphony” (Repeat)

11th May: German Film Evening: “Fassbinder’s Classics” – “Satansbraten”
25th May: Music Appreciation Evening led by Martin Spiteri: “Gustav Mahler: Sixth Symphony”

14th June: Concert by the Zwickau Youth Brass Band at the Great Siege Square, Valletta

19th September: Opening of an Exhibition with works by Gozitan artist Anthony Caruana
An exhibition of oil on canvas consists of landscapes of Gozo and is entitled “The Calm before the Storm”
29th September: Notte Bianca Event

10th October: Lecture “Mother Tongue, Father Land” by Dr. Arndt Kremer, Lecturer at the Department of German at the University of Malta
18th – 19th – 20th October: Dance Performance “Open Waters” Choreographer: Irina Pauls at St. George’s Square, Valletta.

19th October: Ecumenical Service with the participation of the Catholic Sankt Barbara Gemeinde and the Evangelic Andreas Gemeinde
24th October: Illustrated Lecture “The Adventures, pranks & tribulations of a young German Prince in Malta (1598 – 1599)”by Dr. Albert Friggieri, Honorary President of the German-Maltese Circle
27th October: 50th Anniversary Concert by the Kölner Mandolinorchester “Harmonie” directed by Sergei Kurdiaschow at the Sir Temi Zammit Theatre, University of Malta, Tal-Qroqq

14th November: Literary Evening: Austrian actor Martin Waltz read excerpts from books by author Arthur Schnitzler.  In collaboration with the German and the Austrian Embassies

Membership

Permanent and temporary residents in Malta of German or Maltese nationality, not below the age of 18 years of age are eligible for membership to the German-Maltese Circle. Bona fide students between the ages of 14 and 18 are accepted as Junior Members.

Dance Performance "Open Waters"

The German-Maltese Circle organises various activities such as exhibitions, film shows, cultural tours, forums, lectures, seminars, concerts, choral performances by visiting German choirs, chanson evenings, social and sports events and in fact, anything which helps to make especially the Maltese public more conscious of German culture and the German way of life.

Library

Section of the Dorothea von Wendland Library

The Library at the German-Maltese Circle is named after Dorothea von Wendland, the wife of a former German Ambassador, who in the early 1970’s was instrumental in the setting up of a lending and reference library in the former premises of the Circle in Floriana.
