Literary Evening: An Evening with Schiller recited by Mr Heinz-Josef Kaspar

Opening by Mr Arnold Cassola of The Maze, a Ceramics Exhibition of artist Joseph Agius

”A Philatelic Journey through 2000 Years of German History” was the theme chosen by the German-Maltese Circle as its contribution in the Exhibition with the title “Building a Cultural Bridge through Philately” which was organised together with the Alliance Française de Malte, the Círculo Cultural Hispano-Maltés, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura and the Russian Centre for Culture & Science in conjuction with Heritage Malta at the National Museum of Archeology, Valletta. The German section was compiled by Mr Günter Korn, General Manager of the Bund Deutscher Philatelisten e.V. (Bonn).

18th June
Lecture for members of the medical profession:
“The New Role of H.R.T. Have the last two years made any difference?” given by Prof.Dr.Adolf-Eduard Schindler, University of Essen (Organised by the German-Maltese Medical Society)

19th June
Lecture “The Menopause and the Male Equivalent – Symptoms & Management” given by Prof.Dr.Adolf-Eduard Schindler, University of Essen Essen (Organised by the German-Maltese Medical Society)

2nd July
Art Exhibition entitled “Different” by artist Dagmar Jacobs (Niedersachsen) opened by Albert Friggieri, President of the German-Maltese Circle.

15th October
41st Anniversary of signing of the Elysée Treaty : Public lecture by Prof. Alfred Grosser followed by discussion on the subject “France & Germany, the U.S.A. & the U.K.: the new members of the Union and two special relationships”. This event was a joint venture between the Alliance Française de Malte and the German-Maltese Circle.

41st Anniversary of signing of the Elysée Treaty: Vocal & Instrumental Concert – With the participation of German Baritone Egbert Junghanns, French Soprano Corinne Talibart, and musicians Godfrey Mifsud (Clarinet), Sarah Spiteri (Viola) and Caroline Calleja (piano). This event was a joint venture between the Alliance Française de Malte and the German-Maltese Circle in collaboration with the Mdina Cathedral Museum Commission.

25th October
Concert by the Police Choir of Frankfurt at the St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral in collaboration with the Malta Section of the International Police Association.

19th November
Opening by President Emeritus Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici of an Exhibition of paintings entitled “Flying Dancers” by artist Raymond Darmanin.

19th November
Launching of a series of four lectures “Weihnachten in Deutschland” conducted by Marianne Azzopardi.

15th December
Christmas Concert with the participation of Simone Attard, Joseph Vella and Paul Busuttil followed by the Annual Certificate Giving Ceremony. Mr Anthony Degiovanni, Director Further Studies & Adult Education at the Department of Education presented the certificates.

Membership

Permanent and temporary residents in Malta of German or Maltese nationality, not below the age of 18 years of age are eligible for membership to the German-Maltese Circle. Bona fide students between the ages of 14 and 18 are accepted as Junior Members.

Dance Performance "Open Waters"

The German-Maltese Circle organises various activities such as exhibitions, film shows, cultural tours, forums, lectures, seminars, concerts, choral performances by visiting German choirs, chanson evenings, social and sports events and in fact, anything which helps to make especially the Maltese public more conscious of German culture and the German way of life.

Section of the Dorothea von Wendland Library

The Library at the German-Maltese Circle is named after Dorothea von Wendland, the wife of a former German Ambassador, who in the early 1970’s was instrumental in the setting up of a lending and reference library in the former premises of the Circle in Floriana.
