Language Courses, Examinations & Library News
The end of the
scholastic year is fast approaching. In fact courses like that
preparing for the ZD/ZDj, B2 Certificate and the Support classes
for schoolchildren are already over. In June we will be having
more candidates sitting for the prestigious
Goethe Institute Certificates.
290 applications were received for the FIT in Deutsch
Certificate examinations while another 80 candidates would be
sitting for the Certificate examinations from A1 to C1 levels.
A collection of 50 DVDs
with German feature films and documentaries has been added to
the Library. This collection is the first lot which the Goethe
Institute will be offering as part of a project whereby the
German-Maltese Circle would be able to build up a German Film
Library. All DVDs can be taken out on loan by members of the
Circle. The Library will remain open during the Summer months.
Frau Brigitte
Ohk has once more donated a number of books and
Hörbücher – the latter being
much sought by our members.

Europatag 2009 - Europe Day in Bonn
On
Saturday, 9th May, 2009, Europatag was celebrated
in Bonn at the beautiful eighteenth century Town Hall. More than
thirty diplomatic missions, international organisations as well
as Germany’s political parties gathered in several halls inside
the building as well as at stands outside on the sun bathed
market square. Concentrated in one hall were information stands
with special emphasis on the much sought-after employment
possibilities within the countries of the European Union.
The Lady
Mayor, Mrs. Bärbel Dieckmann, said in her opening speech:
“Europe is a unique peace movement. I think people now know how
important it is.” Other speakers too elaborated on a “Europe for
Citizens”, dwelt on intercultural programs and projects, and
encouraged further intercommunications.
Our sister
society, the Deutsch-Maltesische Gesellschaft e.V. of Adenau (DMG),
had been officially invited to participate with an information
stand. Material supplied by the Maltese Tourist Office in
Frankfurt, pamphlets introducing aims and work of the DMG, as
well as flyers describing the German-Maltese Circle (GMC) of
Valletta were offered. Christian Launer, President of the DMG,
was supported by further six members of the DMG and GMC, all of
whom became involved with interested public throughout the day.
Questions often asked concerned conditions for living or
holidays in Malta, educational and cultural offers and
possibilities. Some of the visitors with special interest in
Malta expressed their intentions to pay a visit to the GMC in
Valletta at their next opportunity.
