Ostereier - Malen
Painting of Easter Eggs
Saturday morning, 4th April from 10.00 to 14.00 hours at Messina
Palace
|
|
In
many families in Germany, Easter Eggs are painted every year with
much love and care. The German-Maltese Circle wishes to show this
tradition by inviting you and your older children to an Easter Egg
Painting Session.
So, if you intend to come, please bring the number of
white hard boiled eggs you wish to paint, preferably in the plastic
containers in which you purchased them. Or if you wish to keep your
artworks for the years to come, you would bring raw eggs to be blown
out. Blowing out eggs is a rather special craft, the tricks of which
we will gladly show you. In this case you will also need a container
with lid in which to take the yokes and whites of your eggs home.
For the actual painting you need to supply your own non-toxic water
colours (like children use at school), a fine paint brush and 1 or 2
egg cups to be used as supports while painting.
Please note
that members who wish to participate in the Easter Egg painting
session, have to reserve their place/s beforehand by phoning the
office on Tel. No.21246967 during office hours or
via our online form by not later
than Wednesday, 1st April.

4th April, 10.00 to 14.00 h,
& subject to availability of stocks also on
Monday, 6th April 10.00 to 14.00 h and 17.00 to 19.00
h and Tuesday, 7th April 10.00 to 14.00 h and 17.00

acquaint you also with the traditional gourmet’s pleasures of
the Easter Season in Germany, we are setting up an Easter Stall
on the ground floor of Messina Palace. Lots of Easter Eggs and
Easter Bunnies – Osterhasen – made of fine chocolate and
marzipan are eaten during the Easter week. These are delicacies
in their own right, enhanced with aromas of various fruit,
coffee and liqueurs. Colourful Marienkäfer (ladybirds) and the
yellow Maikäfer (may-bug) of chocolate or marzipan decorate
every Easter table as signs of warmer spring weather and joy of
living.
We will offer you the best of European Chocolatiers and
Niederegger Marzipan in various sizes, individually
wrapped, and in suitable price ranges. Do come early
to avoid disappointment for choice!

Operation Basement
|
|
|
|
In
the photo (from left to right): Architect Bernd Mantel (Head of
the Woodworking Department), Victor Sammut (GMC), Raphael Krüger,
Joachim Speck (Senior teacher of English), Margit Löhlein
(Senior teacher of Business Communication), Robert Steinkämper,
Tilmann Späth and Phillipp Hans. All students are Master Cabinet
Makers at the
Friedrich-Weinbrenner-Gewerbeschule
Freiburg,
except Tilmann Späth, who is Master Organ Builder.
This group was in Malta in the first week of
February this year undertaking the task of preparing designs
towards the renovation of the large and beautiful basement of
Messina Palace. The group’s task was to come forward with plans
towards the utilisation of the basement – preferably as a
restaurant area incorporating space for cultural events.
The result of
their work in the form of plans, designs, photos and projections
was handed to the General Secretary of the German-Maltese
Circle, Mr Victor Sammut during a presentation for the Committee
and for members of the Circle. Tilmann Späth also gave a short
talk on organ building which was well-received by the audience
present. After the presentation, everyone was invited to drinks
which were appropriately served in the basement.
Groups of students from the Interior Design and
Plant Management of the FWG School came to Malta in 2000, then
in 2002, 2005, 2007 (during which the first project at the
German-Maltese Circle was undertaken) and now in 2009.
One of the
students in this year’s group had this to say about their
excursion to Malta: “Malta was a great experience -
hospitality, friendliness and beautiful weather!” while
another one remarked: “It will be very
exciting when I come back to Malta in the future and visit the
GMC to see what has changed”.
Well, it is interesting to inform that renovation
works started almost immediately after the group from Freiburg
left. Plans are in hand to restore the basement so that at
least initially it can be used as a cultural venue.
