Overview
The Library at the German-Maltese Circle is named after Dorothea von Wendland, the wife of a former German Ambassador, who in the early 1970's voluntarily worked along with the Committee of that time in order to furnish the premises of the Circle. The Library contains books and audio-visual material in German, a small Melitensia section as well as books and videos which, though not in the German language deal with aspects of German literature, culture, history, etc. The books found in the Library come mostly from
individuals and organisations who during the years donated their collections to the German-Maltese Circle. Other important sources
are Inter Nationes, a private, but publicly funded institution for cultural, social and political communication between Germany and foreign countries in the media area
(now amalgamated with the Goethe Institute) and the
Goethe Institute, a world-wide, non-profit, semi-private organisation promoting the German language and culture. A small budget is also reserved each year towards the purchase of new material for the Library.
