Synopsis:
16-year-old Paul arrives unannounced at his
uncle’s house. He is met by an idyllic family scene which has
far less substance than it would first appear. The

been asked for a long time.

Synopsis:
When Susanne Wallner returns home from a
concentration camp in 1945, she finds the city of Berlin in
total ruins. What's more, the traumatized and cynical surgeon
Dr. Mertens has occupied her apartment and refuses to leave.
While she tries to begin living her life again, he feels unable
to perform as a doctor and instead drowns his memories in
self-pity and alcohol. Against the desolate backdrop of the
destroyed city, a love story develops. Things are put to the
test when Dr. Mertens finds out that the former Hauptmann
Brückner, an unscrupulous opportunist who ordered the execution
of many innocent women and children, resides nearby.

Synopsis:
Foreman Balla is the swaggering,
self-proclaimed king of a massive construction site, and his
co-workers stick close to him like musketeers. But when a new
Party Secretary is sent in to bring the site under control,
along with a beautiful young engineer named Kati, a love
triangle ensues. Originally banned for its perceived
anti-establishment message, this DEFA masterpiece was shown to
great acclaim after the unification of Germany.

Synopsis:
Margit (Jutta Hoffmann) is in her mid-thirties and at first
glance, seems to be a woman who “has made it”. As a
mathematician in a managerial role at one of the country’s first
data centres, she is emancipation personified. But there is a
“dark side” to this success story. Margit is a single mother
with two daughters, each from different fathers, and her
greatest wish is to meet someone new. She hopes “her third” will
satisfy her longing for a relationship and become her husband
and the father of her children. Margit no longer wants to
conform to what society expects of her - she actively sets out
to find him.

Synopsis:
Party-loyalist Captain Gerd Wiesler hopes to
boost his career when given the job of collecting evidence
against the playwright Georg Dreyman and his girlfriend, the
celebrated theater actress Christa-Maria Sieland. After all, the
“operation” is backed by the highest political circles. What he
didn’t anticipate, however, was that submerging oneself into the
world of the target also changes the surveillance agent.

in 1990–91 and 2002–2003.

Democratic Republic.
