INFORMATION
Aim of courses: To develop
your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills with a
systematic study of grammar.
Commencement: Courses
commencing October 2007. Unless otherwise stated courses
cover one scholastic year (October 2007 - June 2008)

Enrolment:
Print
an application form, fill
in, sign and mail enclosing the relative payment, or else call at the Circle's office which
is open between Monday and Friday from 8.30a.m.
till 12.30p.m. and from 4.30p.m. till 8.30p.m. and on Saturday
from 8.30a.m. till 1.00p.m.
All
applicants are required to state their choice
of class upon registration. Please take note of
your choice - no individual reminders will be
issued. Our staff will be pleased to help you
choose your course, though no responsibility is
accepted for the final choice which must be made
by the individual student. Any course or class
announced herewith is subject to cancellation if
a minimum of 10 students is not reached. Fees
paid will be refunded upon request only in such
an instance.
Enrolment for any class will close once the
maximum number of students in that class is
reached.
Schoolchildren and persons under 14 years of age cannot be
registered for the courses for adults.
Bookings cannot
be accepted by telephone.
Courses'
Fee: The fee for each course is indicated against each
course listed below. The course fee is to be paid in advance upon
enrolment. In some cases, payment terms by instalment
are accepted. Please contact our office for more
details.
Membership
subscription 2008: The membership fee of
€11.65 is to be paid before registering for any
course. Membership to the German-Maltese Circle is
obligatory for all applicants. Membership entitles
applicants to the free use of the Library facilities
and
to the free access of all the Circle's activities. A
monthly Newsletter is also mailed to all members.
FEES PAID WILL
NOT BE REFUNDED FOR WHATEVER REASON ONCE THE COURSES COMMENCE.

Holidays:
No classes will be held during the Christmas and the
Easter breaks as well as on Public Holidays. For more
detailed information contact the office.
Examinations & Certificates: At the end of each course,
applicants will be able to sit for an examination consisting
of a written and of an oral session. All Goethe
Institute Certificates are internationally recognised. A
Certificate of Attendance can be issued upon request if the
applicant would have attended to at least 70% of the total
number of lessons held throughout the year.

Self-assessment test: Prior to
enrolment to any course above the "Grundstufe (A1) Course for
complete Beginners", applicants can assess their German
language competence by doing an online multiple choice test.

Scholarships: Two four-week language scholarships are
awarded by the Goethe Institute to two of the best students
who complete our courses. Other bursaries or exchange
possibilities may also be available during the scholastic
year.

Grundstufe I - Beginners' First Year Course (CEFR Level A1):
Course leads to the internationally recognised START 1
examination
Course fee:
€140,00
This course is intended for those who wish to start
learning German right from the beginning. No previous knowledge of the language is required.
Conversation and simple
communication situations form part of this course.
Those attending this course will be able to sit for the SEC "O"
Level German at the
end of their second year.
After completing this course, you should
have achieved Breakthrough Level (A1) of the Common
European Framework of Reference, namely, you
can understand and use familiar, day-to-day expressions and
simple sentences, and can introduce yourself and others. You
can ask other people personal questions and respond to such
questions themselves. You can conduct a basic conversation
provided the other speakers speak slowly and clearly and are
willing to help.
Lessons of 90 minutes each.

Grundstufe II - Second Year Course (CEFR Level A2):
Course leads to the German O Level examination of the
University of Malta
Course fee: €165,00
This course is intended primarily for those persons who have
completed our First Year Course last year.
After completing this course you can understand sentences and
frequently used expressions which relate to the immediate
situation (for example information about yourself, about work,
etc). You can communicate in familiar, simple situations about
familiar topics. You can describe your own background and
education using simple constructions and can talk about the
immediate surroundings and immediate needs.

Institut
Course leading to the "ZERTIFIKAT
DEUTSCH FÜR JUGENDLICHE" (ZDj) - Goethe Institut
Internationally recognised certificates - CEFR Level B1
Course fee (exclusive of the examination fee):

Only
students with an "O" level or a
Grundstufe II standard in German can apply for
this course. Candidates will be trained in letter
writing, listening and reading comprehensions,
multiple choice exercises and conversation. Students following
this course will concurrently cover the First Year Preparatory
Syllabus for the MATSEC Advanced Level in German.
After
completing this course, you
can understand the main points in a conversation about
familiar topics like work, school, free time, provided other
speakers use clear standard language. You can manage most
situations that can be encountered when travelling in German
speaking countries. You can speak coherently about familiar
topics and areas of interest using simple constructions.

Course preparing for the
Goethe Institut Zertifikat B2:
Course fee:
€186,00
This new course which is open to students with a ZD/ZDj (B1) level in
German, aims at applicants who want to reach an advanced level
in German but do not have the MATSEC Advanced Level
examination as their objective.
On completion of this course, you can
understand the main points of complex texts about concrete and
abstract topics. In your own specialist area, you can follow
specialist discussions. You are able to communicate
spontaneously and fluently, allowing a normal conversation
with native speakers without great effort on either side. You
can talk about a wide range of topics clearly and in detail.

Course preparing for the MATSEC Advanced Level German
2008:

This course is open to students with a ZD/ZDj level in
German or equivalent whose objective is to sit for the MATSEC
A Level German in 2008. The course content includes grammar, literature and Landeskunde.

This course is open to students who have a B2 level in German and/or to those with an "A" level in
German. After completion of this course, you
can understand a wide range of sophisticated, long texts and can
understand implicit meanings. You can use the language in social
and professional situations or in training and study both
effectively and flexibly. You can discuss complex topics in a
thorough and structured manner.

leading to the ZENTRALE OBERSTUFEN PRÜFUNG
(Goethe Institute):
CEFR Level C2.1
Part One Course fee: €210,00
This
course, divided in three parts (spread over 2 years), is open to students who have a
C1 (ZMP) level in German or an equivalent level.
Examination is due December 2009. On
completion of the whole course, you
can effortlessly understand everything you hear
or read. You can communicate spontaneously, very fluently and
precisely, and are able to communicate nuances of meaning.
