German Language Courses at CEFR Levels B1 and B2

Course leading to the Goethe Institut “Zertifikat B1” / “Zertifikat B1 für Jugendliche”
Goethe Institute internationally recognised certificates – MQF Level 3 – CEFR Level B1
Lessons of 180 minutes each on Thursdays at 5.30p.m.
First lesson on Thursday, 6th October
Course fee: €288,00

Students with a CEFR A2 level in German (Goethe Zertifikat A2 or SEC O Level, including Sixth Form First Year students) can apply for this course. Candidates will be trained in letter writing, listening and reading comprehensions, multiple choice exercises and conversation.

After completing this course, you can understand the main points in a conversation about familiar topics like work, school, free time, provided other speakers use clear standard language. You can manage most situations that can be encountered when travelling in German speaking countries. You can speak coherently about familiar topics and areas of interest using simple constructions.

Course leading to the Goethe Institut “Zertifikat B2” MQF Level 4
Lessons of 180 minutes each on Tuesdays at 5.30p.m.
First lesson on Tuesday, 4th October
Course fee: €350,00

Students with a CEFR B1 level in German (including Sixth Form Year 2 students) who want to reach an advanced level in German but do NOT have the MATSEC Advanced Level examination as their objective can apply for this course.

On completion of this course, you can understand the main points of complex texts about concrete and abstract topics. In your own specialist area, you can follow specialist discussions. You are able to communicate spontaneously and fluently, allowing a normal conversation with native speakers without great effort on either side. You can talk about a wide range of topics clearly and in detail.

Membership

Permanent and temporary residents in Malta of German or Maltese nationality, not below the age of 18 years of age are eligible for membership to the German-Maltese Circle. Bona fide students between the ages of 14 and 18 are accepted as Junior Members.

The Library at the German-Maltese Circle is named after Dorothea von Wendland, the wife of a former German Ambassador, who in the early 1970’s was instrumental in the setting up of a lending and reference library in the former premises of the Circle in Floriana.
